Frequently Asked Questions

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. What is the difference between an LSV (low-speed vehicle) and a golf cart?

An LSV is its own class of street-legal alternative fuel (electric) vehicle with safety equipment and speed capabilities specified by the Federal Highway Administration. In Oklahoma, LSVs are regulated by the Oklahoma Department. of Motor Vehicles, unlike golf carts, and have a speed range from 20 to 25 mph. LSVs are street-legal (after insuring and tagging) on streets with posted speed limits of 35 mph or less. LSVs come with many body styles, including some that resemble golf carts, but that doesn’t make them a golf cart. Golf carts do not have the above safety features, speed capabilities, or licensing requirements.

6. What are my payment options?

We accept personal checks and cashiers checks for full payment. We do not take credit cards, or cash.

7. Why is full payment required?

Full payment for the cars is required upon ordering, as we are required by the manufacturer to pay for the cars upfront.

8. Do you deliver the cars to their buyers?

Most buyers have been picking their cars up at Edmond, Ada, or Madill.  In some instances, we have delivered to buyers within a reasonable distance.

9. How do the tax credits work?

The tax credits are exactly that—CREDIT towards your income tax liability. If you have Oklahoma state income tax liability that is at least the amount of the credit (50% of your purchase price) then you can REDUCE your liability by that amount, or if you’ve already paid in those taxes, you will get that much in a REFUND. Same thing applies to the federal tax credit of 10%.

10. What if I don’t pay or owe that much in Oklahoma state income tax?

If your tax liability is not as much as the credit, the state of Oklahoma allows a “carry over” for three additional tax years.

11. Is the tax credit available to me if I live and pay taxes in a different state?

If you do not pay Oklahoma state income taxes, you would not receive the Oklahoma state income tax credit. You should check with your state tax commission to see if your state offers a credit. You would, however, be eligible to receive the federal income tax credit, assuming you pay federal income taxes.

12. My CPA has told me that I am subject to AMT (Alternative Minimum Tax). How will this affect my income tax credits?

For 2009, the federal tax credit on alternative fuel (electric) vehicles will be available to offset AMT.  As for 2010, we're looking into it.

13. Is there a limit to the number of low-speed LSVs I may purchase?

No limit to the number of cars you may purchase. The credits will apply only to the extent that you pay or owe that amount in taxes.

14. What is the warranty on the Tomberlin vehicles?

Tomberlin has a 2-year or 10,000-mile warranty.

15. Where are the cars serviced?
